Chakra healing is an extremely personalized experience. While you may reach out to healers and practitioners to remove blockages in your Chakras, the journey of healing is complete only when you own it up. Healing is always sustained when it is inwards! In this article, we will cover the inward journey to heal the chakra that connects the spiritual and material world- the Heart Chakra.
Heart Chakra, also known as Anahata Chakra, is in the middle of the seven chakras. Governing love, compassion, and empathy, the Heart Chakra connects the safety, intimacy, and power balanced by the lower chakras and the intuition, truth, and purpose of the higher chakras. Located at the center of your chest, the Heart Chakra forms the crucial bridge for aligning your energies of the spirit and matter.
Your Heart chakra is the powerhouse of the biggest and most significant lessons of life- that of universal love, compassion, and empathy for all. Universal love isn’t just your recent love interest, but your family, friends, and colleagues. But more importantly, it is that intrinsic compassion and empathy you carry for strangers and for the whole of humanity.
The Heart Chakra comes after the Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra, and Solar Plexus Chakra and is followed by the Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra, and Crown Chakra.
Understanding the Heart Chakra
Element: Air
Color: Green
Role of the Chakra: The Chakra embodies our primary life lesson, that of universal love, compassion, and empathy for one and all.
Body parts related to the Chakra: Heart, lungs, ribs, diaphragm, breasts, pericardium, shoulders, and thymus glands.
What happens when the Heart Chakra is balanced?
A balanced Heart Chakra is paramount to building a connection with self and establishing loving relationships with others. You can easily and generously give and receive love and compassion, and are grateful for enriching relationships and people in your life. You will find yourself a genuine conduit of positive emotions and care flowing through you to others.
What happens when the Heart Chakra is imbalanced?
On the other hand, a blocked heart chakra would replace love with fear and hatred. You will not only find it difficult to connect with others but also feel undeserving of love. Your relationships may have too many ifs and buts, and you may feel more hatred than required for yourself or others.

Heart Chakra Healing
1. Meditate
Meditation is one of the most potent ways to heal any chakra. You can try Light Meditation, Loving-Kindness Meditation, or Mantra meditation for heart chakra healing.
To prepare for any kind of meditation, ensure that you keep away all distractions, including electronic devices. Take a comfortable space for meditation- a chair or meditation cushion. Try to keep your back straight. A straight spine makes you remain comfortable yet alert, and also eases the flow of energy in the body. If lying down is more comfortable for you, that’s perfectly fine, but take care not to drift into sleep during the practice.
You can also hold a healing crystal in your hand or put on some meditative music. Try these meditations
Green Light Meditation
- Take in a deep, long breadth. Breathe in through your nose, and breathe out through your mouth. Once your body and mind are more relaxed, breathe in and out from your nose. Allow your breath to be deep and gentle.
- Release all the stress in your muscles and body. You will feel much lighter with the removal of all the unwanted, stored energy.
- Imagine Green light entering from the crown of your head to the center of your chest, to your Heart Chakra. Do not worry about shades of green or the brightness of the light. Whatever color comes to your intuitive being is right for you.
- Let the chakra and your body vibrate in the higher energy of green light, seeking in healing. With each breath, imagine your heart chakra expanding and growing with positive vibrations. Every time you exhale, let go of all the blockages and negative energy you may be carrying in that area. Continue this step for at least 10 min.
- Come back to a regular breathing pattern while gently focusing on your breath. Towards the end of the meditation, take three deep breaths, letting the energy flow through your body to the soles of your foot, grounding the energy.
Loving Kindness Meditation
The Loving Kindness meditation is quite popular in Buddhist practice. True to its name, you invite your higher self into the meditation and focus on being loving and kind to yourself and others in this meditation. You can use positive affirmations and white light to heal your Heart Chakra and your relationships. Try one of the guided meditations offered by numerous organizations and experience the difference.
Mantra Meditation
Every chakra is known to have a bija (seed) mantra, which can be used for healing. Bija mantra for the Heart Chkra is YAM.
- In this meditation, start with taking deep breaths and shifting your focus to the Heart Chakra. Inhale deeply, and exhale from your mouth while chanting a long YAMMMM mantra (with an emphasis on the M sound).
- Visualize the heart chakra vibrating and getting energized with the bija mantra.
- With every YAMMMM sound, imagine the heart chakra healing radiating brighter with green color.
2. Yoga
You can energize the chakra with upper backbends and postures that open your chest and improve circulation. Try out some of these yoga poses
- Seated Spinal Twist
- Camel Pose
- Fish Pose
- Eagle Pose
- Wheel Pose
3. Transform Your Inner Being
You can heal a chakra by bringing a shift in your body through food, yoga, essential oils, and crystals. Alternately, you can also bring a transformation in your behavioral response to everyday situations by engaging in meditation, adopting new daily habits, and making conscious choices. Here are some examples of mindful choices to balance your heart chakra and bring love and compassion to your life.
Remain Vulnerable
Vulnerability is misunderstood as a scary emotion and is often linked to feeling weak. But what if we tell you that being vulnerable can help you resolve your emotional blockages, improve your mental health, and more importantly, enable heart chakra healing? Feeling and expressing vulnerability comes with the benefits of stronger, authentic relationships, improved self-awareness, and gratitude. So, the next time you are feeling scared and shameful, or are not comfortable with someone or something, begin by sharing your vulnerability with a friend you trust. Vulnerability is the courage to be yourself, with all the imperfections. And when you embrace yourself as you are, you experience a shift in your heart chakra.
Let it all out
The more you express, the better you get at managing your emotions. If you currently are a bottled-up person with numerous negative emotions and are not sure where to begin managing them, start with daily journaling. You can also try creative expression or emotions through art or music. Any numb negative emotion stored in your body is bottled up in the form of physical illness or blocked heart chakra. Let go of this energy and embrace healing.
Remain Social
If you are someone who prefers being alone all the time, you have a blocked chakra. Make a conscious decision to move out and begin connecting with a closed group of like-minded individuals. We don’t recommend social media to build connections but rather consider catching up over dinner or a drink.
Remember to be Grateful
There is nothing more powerful than being grateful for healing chakra healing. Use a gratitude journal, or choose to express verbal gratitude to someone in your life, or simply remember the good things before going to bed.
4. Detachment vs. Attachment
Your relationships may face a huge dilemma of detachment vs. attachment. Detachment is the practice of letting go of the outcome of a particular action. Simply put, detachment means you keep working on a work assignment, without thinking if you would be appreciated or not. With respect to the heart chakra, it is not expecting love when you give love to someone.
In some relations, you are overly attached and loaded with expectations leading up to you being hurt. However, some of us may be able to practice ‘not having expectations’, but in many cases, it may also lead to ‘not feeling enough love or not doing enough’.
What we fail to understand is the definitions and the use of these two terms. For balancing the heart chakra, what is expected of us is unconditional love. This implies wholeheartedly offering our love without becoming emotionally entangled in the responses we receive from others.
5. Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the window to let go of the grudges, revenge, and hatred- the emotions that block your heart chakra. When you choose to forgive someone, you exponentially increase your healing process and raise vibrations. Research shows that forgiveness gives a boost to your self-esteem and reduces anxiety and depression. When someone gets rude to you at work, use that moment to recognize and acknowledge that the act was wrong. Take another step to understand the challenges faced by the other person, possible reasons behind the reaction, empathize, and let go.
Forgiveness is not for the person who wronged you but for yourself. Remember that the growth and healing journey is highly personal, and the act of forgiveness is an individual choice in that direction. Your healing starts almost immediately after you forgive someone.
6. Self-Love and Self-care
Bask in your own glory for heart chakra healing! Take a moment to appreciate your own virtue and uniqueness. Acknowledge your courage, compassion, spirit, boldness, kindness, and most importantly, prioritize your priorities. Self-love is celebrating your being as is, sending love and compassion without worrying about the social norms and comparisons.
Adopt self-care tips like getting enough sleep and rest, respecting your decisions, finding time for yourself, adopting healthy eating habits, saying ‘No’ when it must be said, and seeking help from others when required.
Only by giving love to yourself, can you understand the universal love.
7. Let go of your Fears
Fears and love are disjointed sets. Love cannot be where fear is, and vice versa. Healing the heart chakra involves letting go of all sorts of fear. When fears linger, they can disrupt the free flow of love, compassion, and empathy associated with a balanced heart chakra. Understand the root cause of your fears, and find effective ways to train your mind to overcome fears.
8. Affirmations
To maximize the benefits of affirmations for balancing the Heart Chakra, practice them consistently and with intention. Find moments throughout your day to repeat your chosen affirmations, and pair them with deep breaths or meditation to enhance their impact on your energy and mindset. Here are some examples of heart chakra healing
- I am a part as well as the source of universal love
- I am worthy of love
- I am open to giving and receiving unconditional love
- I am love itself
- I have the courage to be vulnerable
- I forgive myself and others around me
- I am beaming with empathy and compassion for one and all
- I am fearless
9. Essential Oils and Food choices
Essential oils that correspond to balancing the heart chakra include rose, neroli, pine bergamot, lavender, and ylang ylang. Use a few drops of these oils or a single oil, and apply a diluted version on your heart chakra. You can also choose a relaxed, warm, aromatic bath with an essential oil of your choice.
Add a lot of green leafy vegetables, including spinach, broccoli, and zucchini to your diet to promote healing of the chakra. Consuming green tea or rosebud tea can also invoke a sense of calmness in your mood.
Whether using essential oils or consuming food for heart chakra healing, remember to establish your intention prior to engaging in the practice.
10. Crystals
Wearing rose quartz, jade, green tourmaline, green calcite, or emerald in a pendant, ensuring that the crystals are close to your heart chakra, can speed up the healing process. Don’t forget to energize your new crystals by laying them overnight, exposing them to moonlight, and finally clearing their energies in running water before use.
11. Sound
Every chakra is related to a particular frequency, which can also be used to heal that particular chakra. The frequency resonating with the heart chakra is 639 Hz. You can use the music with this frequency while meditating, sleeping, or during your time for deep relaxation.
Conclusion
Like all other chakras, heart chakra healing can take its own time and pace. You can choose any healing method that best fits your belief system and routine. We strongly recommend meditation and everyday mindful choices for healing.
Note that every individual has a unique set of challenges and thus will have a distinct healing journey. Do not compare your healing progress with others. While some people may balance their heart chakra sooner than you, it definitely doesn’t undervalue your efforts.
