You are the creator in the moment, unconsciously or consciously. The whole of your being, with your thoughts, actions, and words, is already creating your reality.
With self-mastery, you learn to change that reality.
Our society has programmed us to focus on improving life on limited parameters, getting a good education, eating well, and finding a high-earning job. While all these aspects are crucial for survival, we miss out on managing the most essential elements of all, our spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.
Self-mastery is mastering your spiritual journey in the human form. It is developing control, understanding, and mastery over yourself, including your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and actions. Self-mastery involves gaining a deep understanding of life patterns and consciously working towards self-improvement and self-actualization.
Self-mastery is delving deeper into the questions of who you are and what is your life purpose. Answering these questions is possible when you empower your inner being and ignite the guru within.
When you do that, you attain deep bliss, unperturbed by the external environment. The definition of possibility, transformation, and success will change for you. With self-mastery, nothing would remain impossible, and no questions will remain unanswered.
There isn’t any shortcut to attaining self-mastery. It is a long journey of transforming the self from within. The more you practice, the better you get.
1. Universal laws
Imagine if you had a book with answers to all your questions. If you could decode the world’s dynamics and live life exactly how you want it to unfold?
If self-mastery begins with a wise soul, the principles of that journey are elaborated in the 12 universal laws. The 12 Universal laws provide a wealth of detailed and comprehensive information on the functioning of the universe. While this is a one-stop solution to many of your growth hurdles, here is the trick. It would take some genuine dedication and effort to understand the laws and implement them. When you invest time in decoding the laws, you are bound to open a vast realm of possibilities.
By immersing yourself in these laws and integrating them into your daily practice, you will attain self-mastery and amplify your potential to assist and empower others.
2. Free Will
Irrespective of what your life is right now, your future depends on your free will at this moment. In spirituality, it is believed that although our past actions and accumulated karma create our present situation, our free will has the power to transcend its negative impact.
Each day presents you with an opportunity to make choices that can positively impact your journey. It is critical to note that multiple choices knock at our doors every day. Free will is about making continuous choices, the combination of which makes for our future. Would you respond with empathy or be selfish, seek learning opportunities or complain over challenges, get triggered by compassion or ego. Taking proactive measures to manage our weaknesses enables personal growth and self-improvement, fostering a sense of empowerment and resilience.
Through these conscious choices, you harness the transformative power of free will and lay the foundation for a better tomorrow.
3. Meditation
In pursuing self-mastery, meditation plays a pivotal role in nurturing the well-being of all four aspects of our being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Meditation or mindfulness is living with your whole self right now. It is gently nudging your mind when it runs away, being patient and compassionate with yourself, and bringing yourself to the task at hand. When you are entirely in the moment- you can achieve so much more than you otherwise can.
Meditation serves as an essential practice that not only contributes to longevity and physical health but also cultivates a calm and composed mind, enabling us to navigate complex situations effectively.
But more importantly, meditation helps you focus more and more on self-mastery rather than focusing on the day-to-day chaos. With each day, strive to be more mindful than the previous day, cultivating the present moment awareness and deepening your connection with yourself and everyone around you.
4. Detachment
Detachment is often a misunderstood concept. Detachment isn’t going away from relationships, leaving jobs, being indifferent, or running away from responsibilities. Detachment is beautifully described by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Geeta- as the act of doing the right thing for the sake of doing it, without worrying about its success or failure.
To seek self-mastery, avoid the emotional high of being complimented and awarded or the lows of being criticized and failed. Being detached is a powerful tool to free yourself from all the anxiety, fear, jealousy, pride, and vanity, all emotions we work so hard to let go of.
The exercise of detachment can be challenging though. Give yourself time to master this skill. Begin with being aware of your emotions and expectations, let go of your ego, and embrace uncertainty to release your attachments.
5. Initiate, Manifest, Surrender
Self-mastery is a long journey. While there is so much you can do, it is best to start with your own set of growth priorities. Identify your weaknesses and work on them to make your transition journey easier. For example, if love relationships haven’t been easy for you, identify your emotional or mental blocks in relationships. Now prioritize healing those blockages through meditation, detachment, free will, and the universal laws. While the solutions to each challenge will vary, know that the answers lie within you.
Manifest transformation in your life. Exploring the spiritual journey will give you incredible intuitions and responses to your questions. The universe will begin communicating with you in incredible ways, and you will find unexpected support from strangers, healers, and well-wishers.
Lastly, surrender yourself to the universal wisdom. Letting go of the obsession to make your manifestations come true is the best way to make them a reality. To surrender is that wonderful feeling of letting go, stepping out of your own limitations, and letting your higher self take control for good. Spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle once said, “Surrender is to say ‘yes’ to life—and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”
Transforming Lives
Attaining self-mastery will naturally drive you to transform lives. That doesn’t necessarily mean you would take up social work (which remains a possibility), but you would actively seek opportunities to help everyone around you. Your positive energy will act as a magnet, people will feel comfortable sharing their issues, and you will be looked upon as a leader.
Through your actions and words, you will uplift others, sparking a positive ripple effect in their lives.
Self-mastery not only transforms your own life but also positions you as a catalyst for change in the lives of those around you. Your magnetic energy, empathetic nature, and innate leadership qualities will enable you to heal and inspire others effortlessly,
Conclusion
Self-mastery is a long, exciting quest. No matter where you are on that journey and no matter how long it takes to reach the finish line, you can’t ignore the perpetual shift in your inner being.
And when you ultimately realize self-mastery, you will be enchanted by your ability to acknowledge and experience this:
You are only a part of the universe.
Yet, the whole universe resides in you.
