“Chakras are the grammar of spirituality. If you understand this grammar, everything will fall in place, including health, emotional well-being, and relationships.”

There is a lot of buzz on Chakras and their role. How do you simplify chakras for a beginner in this journey?
Chakras play a dramatic role in supporting your well-being. In my opinion, Chakras are the grammar of spirituality. If you understand this grammar, everything will fall into place.
There are 114 chakras, beautifully interlinked and working in synchronicity for the functioning of your body. It is essential for beginners to understand 7 chakras; once you master and balance all 7 chakras, you can move on to open 12 major chakras. Note that the chakras are not placed in the physical body but are found in the etheric body or pranamaya kosha, which is your energy body, not visible to the naked eye. The etheric body has 72000 nadis and meridians (which also work as acupuncture points).
While you understand the chakras, you must also know that we have 7 koshas or seven sheaths or layers, which we commonly address as aura. Our scriptures have the details of the 5 koshas, but if you practice meditation, the last two koshas also open up.
Explain a little more about the 7 chakras. How can someone easily identify which chakra is associated with which physical ailment?
The 7 chakras are like energy vortexes to maintain the energy of the area in which these are placed. So all you have to do is understand the placement of chakra and related emotional and physical issues they bring up.
1. The Root chakra is near the tailbone or base of the spine. It is also known as Muladhar Chakra, wherein ‘Mula’ means root and ‘Adhar’ means the base. All your body parts below this chakra, like hips, legs, feet, etc. are governed by it. Like the name, the root chakra dominates and takes care of the basic necessities of life, including food, clothing, and shelter. People with weak and imbalanced root chakra may have financial blockages or can be influenced by generational curses deeply ingrained in their lineage.
2. Placed two fingers below the navel, the sacral chakra affects body parts between the sacral and root chakra, including the bladder, kidneys, uterus, and reproductive organs. Also known as Swadhisthana, it implies the ‘place of self’. If you find it challenging to find your place in relationships, or if the relationships are triggering you in any manner, it indicates that your sacral chakra needs correction.
3. Solar plexus or Manipura Chakra is the third chakra, which is placed two fingers above the navel. The body parts between the solar plexus and the sacral chakra are governed by the Solar plexus, including the stomach, liver, and gall bladder. An optimally functioning metabolism serves as an indicator of a harmonized solar plexus chakra, which governs the fire element within us.
If the chakra is imbalanced, you will find it challenging to digest what people say about you. Trusting individuals might become a complex endeavor, and feelings of anger and anxiety can arise. If you are someone who lacks confidence and fears public speaking, or on the contrary, exhibits a tendency of excessive pride and ego, you need balancing of your solar plexus.
4. Placed in the center of the chest, the Heart Chakra takes care of your heart and lungs. The chakra brings the focus on love, beginning with self-love. Self-love presents a miraculous solution to most of the issues with the heart chakra and your relationships. In all my therapy sessions on the heart chakra, I use quizzes to understand if the participants put enough effort into loving themselves. Their response becomes a starting point for healing.
5. While the heart chakra is focused on the feeling of love, the Throat chakra is all about expressing it. Your voice box and the thymus gland are affected by the throat chakra. If you are able to speak your truth with words, gestures, and effective communication, you have a balanced throat chakra. However, if you struggle to convey or elucidate your thoughts, even with excellent presentations at work, your efforts may go to waste.
The throat chakra is also crucial in effective communication in a relationship. Despite feeling a deep connection, some individuals take years to express their love to their partners. Similarly, if you love someone but consistently respond inappropriately or with anger, it indicates an imbalance in the throat chakra.
6. If your first 5 chakras are balanced and you are a meditator, the doorway to knowing oneself opens up through the third eye chakra. With a strong third eye chakra, you will find responses to questions like – Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? Have I ever lived before? What is the difference between destiny/ fate, and free will? Does life exist after death? A balanced third eye chakra offers a state of bliss and is a state of being.
7. The Crown Chakra also referred to as the Sahasrara Chakra, is positioned at the crown of the head. It serves as the ultimate chakra among the seven. This chakra establishes a powerful link with the supreme Self, fostering a profound connection. When the Crown Chakra awakens, it signifies the unrestricted flow of universal energy and the attainment of spiritual enlightenment. Once this chakra opens, it paves the way for the opening of other chakras. We will delve into these chakras in a separate discussion.
How are chakras associated with some of our deep-rooted issues?
I will give you an example. One client came to me and told me that he has relationship issues with his wife. He said in all conversations with his wife, she would respond in a very irritated tone of voice. Her response was offensive not just in case of a conflict but rather in day-to-day conversations.
When I went into deep therapies with him, including past life regression, inner child, and family constellation sessions, I realized that he had faced massive physical, mental, and sexual abuse in his childhood. He was an unwanted child by his parents and was often left alone at home when both parents had long working hours. He did not get attention or care from his parents and was often physically abused due to minor mistakes.
I had to do numerous therapy sessions to realize that he had self-worth issues and lacked confidence. This was also shown in the imbalance of his solar plexus chakra. In such situations, individuals tend to mask their insecurities by projecting either superiority or inferiority within their relationships. In this case, my client was flaring with ego, showcasing his power over his wife. He had too many expectations, which ultimately took on her to lose her temper in conversations. While he could see her irritation in conversations, he had little idea of his own role in triggering her reaction.
In the case of my client here, I could visualize issues with Solar Plexus, Throat, and Heart Chakra. However, healing him was a long haul.
Have you ever seen any pattern in terms of what all people approach you with?
I have observed that most people have an imbalance of the lower three chakras. That’s because these chakras are closely associated with our childhood traumas (including the womb) or unfinished stories (past lives) that manifest as chakra imbalances.
It is a herculean task to heal the lower chakras. Yet, people generally do not balance their lower chakras and focus on opening the third eye or crown chakra. Most of the time, they are simply adopting an escape route to dealing with and healing the lower chakras, which requires a lot of effort.
Is the process of chakra healing governed by healers then? Can you give us some tips to heal chakras on our own?
I always tell everyone that our journey is from being a Buddhu (fool) to being a Buddha.
Chakra wisdom is an important milestone in this journey. And you need no therapists on this path. You can simply inculcate a combination of the following practices or select a few of them to heal chakras:
I always tell everyone that our journey is from being a Buddhu (fool) to being a Buddha.
Chakra wisdom is an important milestone in this journey. And you need no therapists on this path. You can simply inculcate a combination of the following practices or select a few of them to heal chakras:
1. Chant bija mantras
There are specific bija mantras for each of the chakras.
- Root Chakra: LAM
- Sacral Chakra: VAM
- Solar Plexus Chakra: RAM
- Heart Chakra: YAM
- Throat Chakra: HAM
- Third Eye Chakra: OM
- Crown Chakra: OM
2. Chakra Meditation
Every chakra has a particular color. Imagine the light of the chakra color, which is weak, entering your body. Allow the light to illuminate the chakra within you, infusing it with the transformative energy of universal healing light. Here is the link to the guided meditation.
3. Try art to heal chakras
Use your left hand to draw or color mandalas. You will notice that your color choices while painting corresponds to the chakra color you are trying to strengthen. That is your subconscious asking you to choose the colors you need for healing.
4. Ragas for healing
In Indian culture, we have certain ragas which can heal specific chakras.
- Root Chakra: Shyam Kalyan Raga
- Sacral Chakra: Yaman Raga
- Solar Plexus Chakra: Abhogi Raga
- Heart Chakra: Bhairav Raag and Durga Raga
- Throat Chakra: Jaijaiwanti Raga
- Third Eye Chakra: Bhoop Raga
- Crown Chakra: Darbari Raga
5. Poetry
If you are fond of poetry, try reading or writing poems that correspond to the emotions governed by your imbalanced chakra.
6. Yoga
Numerous yoga poses and crystals can also help balance chakras.
7. Food
Consume food that matches the color associated with the imbalanced chakra.
Conclusion
Confused about which of your chakras require healing? Here is a challenge shared by Ambica, “Practice 15-minute daily sessions of chanting the Bija Mantra for each chakra. Start from the Root Chakra and progress all the way up to the Crown Chakra, dedicating 40 days to each chakra. Make a firm commitment to chant regularly, without skipping a single day, while setting your intention for healing. If you do this, I am confident that you will witness a profound shift in your well-being and relationships. Simply healing the chakras can lead to a 360-degree shift in you, healing you of the traumas unknown to you.”
